Gas Prices - the REAL way to reduce them!

New posts
Is there a way for the gov't to force the oil companies to maintain/increase their refining capability instead of just posting record profits?

The government should not regulate or step in or tax companies for "record profits". They should let the record profits provide incentive for competition to get in the business and make their own record profits, bringing pump prices down.

Hey both ways on that Adam Smith. Shouldn't the " invisible hand " work both ways. Lets stop subsidizing oil companies with tax incentives and other breaks. Lets not use tax dollars and US soldiers to secure overseas oil fields for their profit.

You had me until that last sentence. I agree with it, but I don't agree with where you are trying to go with it.

If I am wrong on Iraq, remind me why we didn't attack N. Korea first. Charter member of the axis of evil. They seemed to be closer to having WMD's. They have an evil dictator. Their people needed to be freed from tyranny and given democracy. They have threatened the United States. They have defied UN sanctions. They support terrorism. Yeah, it has nothing to do with oil.

Then you can argue that we should have attacked North Korea. That doesn't take away from the fact that we should have gone after Hussein. Especially since Hussein had much stronger ties and a closer proximity to terrorism, and our presence in Iraq was planned to help shape terrorist sympathizing countries' policies, which it has.

Based on your reasoning of stronger ties and proximity, I believe Syria or Iran would be your targets.

Thought I would pass this email on:

Help stop summer gas price gouging

Can you face another summer where a day trip to the lake or the beach costs you an arm and a leg? It's shaping up to be just that if we don't ask Congress to stand up to Big Oil now.

But there is a bill in the House this week that could make gas price gouging a federal crime, so we don't pay more while the oil companies rake in record profits. I signed a petition to urge my representative to pass this bill this week -- can you join me at the link below?

Get ready to stand in line and wait for rations. What other pricing should government control? Many people believe that charging $25 per hour, or $52,000 per year, for someone to pick up their groceries is gouging. Do you believe that the state should control that pricing as well? Or do you believe that if someone can do it cheaper than $25 per hour, they have enough economic incentive to do so without the state looking over both of your shoulders?
