Here's one of the darker scenarios that pops into my mind, and who is to know what is far-fetched in these days. It seems to be the consensus that Trump may be racking up possible indictments (collusion/ conspiracy might not be one of them, but there are plenty of others) . It is also the opinion of many in the Department of Justice that a sitting president cannot or should not be indicted. But, when he is no longer president he is fully eligible to be indicted for all these things. Therefore, in Trump's mind, the only way to avoid a flood of indictments is to remain president as long as he can. That means rigging the election of 2020, and if he still loses, then to invalidate the election by "executive order" or simply call a "national emergency" and declare he must remain in office because it's a national emergency. And since McConnell seems to have the right to not call any opposing bill to a vote in the Senate, the deal is done. Have a happy day.

If the House could pass a "resolution of disapproval" on trump's present emergency declaration and force a vote in the Senate, wouldn't they also be able to do the same in the scenario you describe? Surely the Senate would pass (McConnell has to take a vote in these cases) and override a veto on something like this. Otherwise, we're really screwed and our form of government would totally fall apart.

The resolution to stop the present “emergency” is expected to pass, and be vetoed, but the vote to over-ride is not expected to pass. The sane scenario could play out in the next “emergency”. It all comes down to just how corrupt the Republicans in the Senate are. Troubling...

Your "dark scenerio" reflection is most likely spawned from the reality of an unelectable pool of radical Democratic Presidential hopefuls and intra-party fights. Your party is imploding while all Trump has to do is sit back and watch. Coupled with the diminishing likelyhood of finding evidence of collusion, I can almost smell your fear. Stay thirsty my friend.
