Today was the day we've been dreading for this past year.

We had to put John to sleep this afternoon. It was time. His enlarged heart along with his arthritis and the side effects of the meds finally took its toll on his small body. I knew yesterday what was to happen today. He usually sits at the bottom of the deck stairs and waits to be picked up and brought inside but yesterday, he was lying on the ground in the melting snow and was unable to stand - his hind quarters were completely incapacitated and he never physically recovered.

Even with warning, it?s hard for a teen age boy to come to grips with the likely possibility of having to put your family pet, your lifelong friend, to sleep the next day. And so it was. The sympathetic vet delivered the news, after x-rays and examination, that none of us wanted to hear, that it was finally time.

We all 3 took turns holding him and petting him and rubbing his soft, beautiful beige fur. Then it was time and it was quick and it was quiet and he is gone.

Rudy, of course, is confused and keeps looking around for John. Mr. Johnrudy quit taking Rudy for walks because John could no longer go and it broke Mr. JR?s heart to hear John cry when he couldn?t join them. Rudy went for his first walk with Mr. JR in a long, long time tonight.

We all miss John very much ~

:( ...Godspeed little John. God bless you and your family JR. It really is never easy. I hope John meets up with our Missy and has a pain free run!

I'm so sorry, JR. John was such a pretty dog and I'm sure he gave you and your family many good memories.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this. Had no idea little John was having such a hard time. Thinking of you guys, JR.

Oh JR, I am soooo sorry. I don't know why, but this bit of news really hit me hard. I don't know you or John, but I am sitting here with tears streaming down. I guess I've just had a crappy couple of days and to sense your pain and your family's just breaks my heart. You'll be in my prayers.

Oh Johnrudy, I am so sorry. :( I know what you are going through from when we lost our dog Sapphire. Somehow I knew the morning I left her at the vet for some tests that she would not be coming home alive, and she didn't. Our other dog looked for her for two days. There was one spot off of our driveway where she would always lay by our dogwood tree. Our other dog went right to that spot two days straight sniffing and never did again. What helped me is the fact that we had another dog to look after and care for. And John had a great life, I know, with such wonderful people caring for him. I am sure he is looking down upon all of you right now. I recommend a sight called Rainbow's Bridge. I have a memorial to our dog Sapphire on there. Below is the link.
