I can't resist a captive audience.

In one of the French king's court, before the revolution, it wasn't legal to display one's wealth. I can't remember the reason why, whether it was from fear of robbery and pillage or what, but I do know that the rich noblemen and women chafed at the bit about this one. They weren't going to give up their shiny little bits of diamonds and rubies and pearls. So what they did was display their wealth a little more privately. Like on their privates. The women would braid their pubic hair and weave their gemstones and fancy ribbons in. When one of the king's mistresses was murdered, her body was dumped in the street and her skirts were lifted to show the ghoulish public the pretty little ribbons she'd bedecked her short and curlies with.
