Bam! or Kick it up a knotch!

New posts
we'll do some thinking on this - already got our trips planned for next year, don't think we are even gonna get to sowal next year.

glad to know i wouldn't have to eat cajun - it makes my lips and tongue swell, and hurts all the way down and out....

think Macaroni Grill doing steaks with Christmas lights embedded in the dark ceiling (dining under the stars!). Seriously. If you want a steak in SOWAL, I am pretty sure you can indulge at Yianni's, Borago(?), Cafe Tango(?) and support your friendly local restaurant operator! Come to think of it, where can you get a good steak in SOWAL?:idontno:

I wouldn't buy a steak at any of these places (esp yianni's). maybe a veal chop at borago (yum). the best steak we've had in sowal is Pandora's and D&K Cafe. we hear its worth the drive into Destin to Destin Chops for a really good steak (this has always been the case but we just can't seem to drive that far...)

Hey, you got an egg? I am itching to get one of those things once we settle down someplace longer than 9 months. I hear they are AWESOME!

oh my god - if you ever meet mr audie as him about his egg - he will love you for life....

seriously - you cannot make a bad meal on the egg. he's made pizza, meatloaf, steaks, chicken, ribs, shrimp, fish. everything is delicious. my favorite is meatloaf cooked over hickory chips.....and his provolone burgers. ok i'm hungry again.....

Oh Audie, contrary to Hollywood's portrayal of the situation, NOLA isn't a Cajun town and has few Cajun eateries. The best stuff here is Creole food, which is sort of a fusion of southern and European (French and Spanish) cuisine. Emeril got his first big break at Commander's Palace, a mecca of Creole cooking. If you like Emeril's fare, you like Creole cooking.

all food in NO = wonderful!   (well, except a few touristy places)

how is destin chops ? we've never tried it, is it a fancy place ? we had sirloin strips at yanni's and they were decent for what they were. we thought the steaks at pandora's haven't been as good the last few times we were there, we go there at least once a trip.

What is the deal with them? Don't they heat up hotter than a meteor with minimal fuel? I can't wait to get one. Can you smoke on them too? I know you want a low heat for smoking but thought the egg was beloved due to it's uncanny heating ability.

Miss Kitty got one for Mr. Kitty so if you see her before Audie, ask away. I hear Miss Kitty's gotten some really good meals courtesy of the Green Egg. My brother has one and all the hype is worth it. Talk about the incredible things it does to meat...right Audie?

yea, it uses lump charcoal and will get up to 750 degrees in no time. it will actually withstand heat up to 2000 degrees is what the literature says. i don't know all the technical stuff with it because i don't use it - that's his job. i know he sears the steaks at 700-750, then slow cooks them. and it takes 6-8 hours for him to make ribs. you can smoke on it too i believe. a 25 lb bag of lump charcoal will last several months . we like it because when you cook on it in the winter,no matter how cold it is your cooking time stays the same. we have a large one which is perfect for 2 people and we have the mini egg he had to have for vacation which will cook 3-4 burgers or 2 steaks depending on the size.

Heh, Punz fussed today b/c I ate 3/4 of a huge muffelatta and a bowl of seafood gumbo, then topped it off with an Italian ice at this incredible Italian Ice Cream parlor called Angelo Brocato's which has been open since 1905. I had a blood orange ice and she had rum raisin ice cream. They also do spumoni(sp?), gelato(sp?), all sorts of cookies, pastries and coffees. Your DNA would probably sizzle at the sight/smells/tastes!
