Kids playing on a roof.....

New posts
J did the girl go to Scared Heart? I saw her in the paper this morning, she was lovley. So sad.

Yeah, last name of Bollinger. I'm still trying to find out about the Trinity boy in PCB, and it wasn't on the news last night. My visiting girls have been receiving their info through their 3 constantly ringing cell phones.

That was her then. Beautiful girl. I didn't hear anything about the Trinity boy. I think spring break should be outlawed unless accompanied by a parent.

I seem to remember the teen and college stupidity problems getting bad enough a few years back that the Panama City area tv stations were running PSAs about how you shouldn't dangle yourself off high rise condo balconies and walkways.

Tis sometimes a strange and sad world we live in.

That reminds me of being at the Holiday Inn in PCB back in the 10th grade, and seeing a drunk friend of mine hold another drunk friend of mine over the railing on the 10th floor. No pool below, just a parking lot. That freaked me out. I also had a friend break his leg from hanging off of the third floor as he jumped to the ground. He was really drunk. I think most moms would freak out at the things which their children do. I once told my mom that she need not worry about not knowing some things. Some things should never be told to moms and others, only after the fact, to keep moms' sanity.

while i would NEVER advise it and would get the off the roof RIGHT AWAY! kids in not so nice city neighborhoods that don't have public park spaces play on the roof. it's so dangerous, but generally a good skate park or playground solves the problem.

urban building=urban issues

architecture and development affect people's behaviors. it's really fascinating. here, they built urban density without understanding the necessity of urban infrastructure. people are like little animals and it's easy to build in ways that will ensure certain kinds of behavior. some types of development that are high density without infrastructure like the "projects" for example, actually encourage isolation and crime.

meanwhile, if you took the same project building, created a large lobby where community can gather indoors ensuring communication, good lighting and openness in public areas like hallways, public indoor play spaces and community areas, recreation like pool and surrounded it with parks and trees, it would be a very safe and secure billion dollar condo.

the cost of something doesn't necessarily ensure how people behave, the design does.

i don't think developers here put much thought into that. too bad, a little thought can reap alot of $$$!

p.s. where there's a lack of community, there's a sense of lawlessness. and even in an urban environment, you CAN create a sense of community. i think people feel as though they can get away with anything - leaving young teens alone to party- because, well, they can.
it's a tragedy to lose young people like that.

if you don't give kids safe options for being kids (a community center, basketball court, skate park) they will find options...bad ones..that you don't like.

if developments and community pretend they don't exist, they WILL make themselves known.

This is a tangent, but the Holiday Inn in PCB is where we had our honeymoon. We were undergrads at Tulane, our parents were opposed to us getting married prior to graduation, so they wouldn't pay for the honeymoon. The Holiday Inn at PCB is all we could afford.

We drove by recently and couldn't find it. I assume it has been torn down.

:nono1: :nono1: :nono1: Waaaay toooo young to be running on the roof...were parents in sight? Probably not!:(
