Beach Lover
Im looking for 2 personal water craft. Ive narrowed it down to yamaha fx cruiser HO or sea doo rxt or gxt. We will be using them in the lake and ocean.

My concern is the yamaha doesnt have to closed loop cooling and the sea doo does. I also hear the sea doo spend more time in the shop then the yamaha. The HP is much less in the yamaha but its still very fast and Im not sure I need all the HP the sea doo puts out.

Anyone have any comment or helpfull hints?

I have owned Sea Doos and they are very fast. I have always heard that the Yamaha's are "bullit proof" Look at the PWC rental fleets. They are Yamaha 90% if the time. I have asked the guys that rent them why and they say the Doos were always in the shop. If I wasn't concerned about sheer speed I'd go with the Yamaha.

I wouldn't worry about closed cooling either. Both units should have flush fittings on them so saltwater is not big deal. BUT make sure you buy a galvanized trailer. I trashed 3 painted steel trailers from saltwater use. And not very much use at that. Dip them in once and its like a cancer.

I heard the same thing about the trailer. I was leaning toward the yamaha, most dealers seem to work a deal better with the yamaha.
The stability is better on the yamaha also. So if they both have the flush systems and I take care of them they should last a while. 20k is a lot to spend so I want to make sure I get the right ones.

Thanks RO

Don't know nothin' about the above^^^, but I love the cat!

I remember when $6,000 would get you the baddest Sea Doo made. It hat 110 HP. Now they have one with 215 HP and it has a supercharger :yikes:

Me too, I cant believe Im even thinking about spending this money but after 10 years of boat and slip payments its much better to pay for the skis. I just need to get rid of the boat now. I might have a buyer soon. Lots of folks looking. Did you ever get a new boat?

I know, been away for a bit but I will be back as often as I can. I think we are going to buy some wave runner so when the boat sells we can still get on the water
