Re: Done Wrapping! (And Merry Christmas)

Merry Christmas to all! We open presents in our family on Christmas eve with one of my sisters. It's a tradition that started when we were little because my dad would have to work Christmas morning at our luncheonette to take care of the customers wanting breakfast after church services. So, we would go to bed Christmas eve and our parents would wake us up saying "Quick, get up. Santa's just leaving" and we would hop out of bed and always miss him, only hearing the sound of the bells as he whisked out the door. Then we'd all open presents. So, my sisters and I and our families still get together to open presents on Christmas eve, as we did last night. Today, we'll go to brunch at one sister's house (who is soon to come out of lurkdom on this board because she's been lurking for about a year now), go to the movies to see "A night at the museum" with another sister and her family this afternoon, then go back to the soon-to-not-be-a-lurker anymore sister's house for Christmas evening.

The wonderful thing about traditions and Christmas is that, as we've learned on this board during the past week, even during tragic times and in the midst of our sad losses, these Christmas traditions help our hearts transcend our pain for moments and appreciate the special gifts that life still brings us. Here's a toast to Christmas, traditions, and the people we love whether they're with us at the table or in our hearts.
