?In recent weeks, we've detailed the hilarity that ensues when tea partiers decide to dismantle the protections of government that had been assembled by Democrats and Republicans alike in this, the fourth-largest state in the union.?

Here?s a long laundry list bills, regulations, deregulations, $ of costs to taxpayers, potential loss of jobs due to deregulating ..............

I don't have to, I just read the news. You know what I see, I see a governor who is working to finally solve all these tough problems (robert's "pain points") that no past governor has had the balls to take on. I see our education system getting reformed, I see our pension system getting reformed, I see Citizens Property getting reformed, I see Medicaid getting reformed, I see our prison system getting reformed, I see our land use laws getting reformed, and I see a budget on the drawing board that slashes 5 billion dollars *we don't have* even though we jacked up taxes two years ago. I see federal boondoggles being turned down too.

Yeah, some might not like these changes. I'm sure the people who own 500K+ homes on the coast insured by Citizens will be pissed when their policy gets dropped. I'm sure teachers who suck at their job will be bummed when they become unemployed. I'm sure the democrats will scream bloody murder when the new budget is passed. I'm sure the unions will freak when we lay off a bunch of state workers, and when we stop collecting their dues for them. I'm sure Medicaid patients will complain when they get switched to managed care. Such is life, when you depend on government for services change is part of the deal you sign on to. We can not sit around and just "keep things the way they are".

Now, truth is, I don't think all of this change will be perfect (how could it be?), but it's a major major leap in the right direction. We are moving forward vs. sitting idle. This state is in pretty good shape but we do have some pretty serious or potentially series issues that have not been dealt with for years. I see those problems getting addressed for the first time. I don't remember this kind of activity from the florida legislature, ever!

Florida is about more than dollars and cents. the important thing at the foundation, is our quality of life and our value system.

to destroy our environment and to cause undue harm to the most vulnerable people in the state; and to short change our children's education, shows a lack of moral courage.

So what if we save some money today, at the expense of our future.

My former boss, Senator Graham, says it better than I:

Former Gov. Graham slams Scott over education - Florida - MiamiHerald.com
?This idea of selling Florida as the cheapest state ? well that?s what we?ve got now,?? Graham said in a lengthy telephone interview with the St. Petersburg Times. ?To drive it (costs) down at the expense of young people?s education is wrong.??

?Florida is a wonderful place to live. But it is a fragile place and we have to keep investing in the things that will retain that high quality of life.??
?I?m discouraged at a lot of things that are happening,?? he said. ?It seems so short-sighted, the idea of cutting education by 10 percent seems unbelievable. To cut Florida Forever (the state?s land buying program) to zero and cut down spending on the Everglades ? it all damages education and the environment.??

Of plans to force state employees to pay more for their pensions and health care, he said, ?It?s dismissive, like a head coach telling all the players they are lazy and overpaid.

and believe me, Shopper, there was a time when the Florida Legislature and the governor's office did a much better job than what we've seen in the last 10 years or so. But, if one hates government, then, everything is seen through that lens, so there is no amount of reasoning that will make a difference to that belief system.
