h. pylori?

New posts
Three months of a PPI wouldn't do diddly to B12 absorption. While chronic use of a PPI may rarely be associated with decreased B12 absorption in the elderly (chronic defined as years, not months), the elderly also at their baseline produce less intrinsic factor and are at higher risk to begin with.

whew...I thought I was screwed! Prilosec is my friend.

Is it possible that H. pylori was not the cause of the stomach pain? If some people can carry this bug and be asymptomatic, is it possible to see a kid with occasional nausea, test and find H. pylori and conclude that it is the cause?
He has done the antibiotics and is doing the Prevacid for three months. Will we ever know for sure if it was the bug that gave him the stomach pain at the start? What about testing again to see if the bug is dead. Neither doc hs suggested a follow-up test. He seems fine but my curiosity is peked by all of this.
As far as diet modification goes, I'm not changing anything, there are so many arguements on both sides. We live in a world full of processed, chemically treated, genetically altered food. We choose as wisely as possible and feasible but when it comes right down to it some days you want salad, some days you want a sandwich and our goal is to offer our kids as many beneficial calories to power their crazy engines and teach them to eat a variety of foods.

It is certainly possible that the H. pylori was a red herring. Lord knows that vague abdominal discomfort and the pediatric population go hand in hand. My take, without being privy to the whole case, is that it is unusual to look for H. pylori so quickly. What I would do is go ahead and have a GI appointment, determine the need for endoscopy, further testing and getting off the PPI as soon as is possible.
