hard transition

New posts
Mr. Pod's dad went into a full-time Alzheimer's care facility today. Sad day for the family.

:( I'm sorry to hear that Pea. My sister that is only 6 years older than me was placed in an Alzheimer's facility on Saturday. It is just so sad. I can't even let myself think about it. :(

I hope that the transition for your FIL and the rest of the family will be as painless as possible. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Prayers and Love to everyone who is dealing with and has dealt with this.   It is a sad disease....

Well, bless his heart, he was going in over the weekend for a temporary stay while my mother-in-law went out of town. But just last week she'd finally reached the point of realizing she couldn't care for him anymore. So, he went in this weekend with her planning to pick him up yesterday, and her kids said--maybe he should just stay. So, she agreed. So, I guess the real answer is he was OK when he went in--thinking it was for the weekend--but he honestly doesn't really have a concept of temporary vs. permanent, if that makes sense.

Thanks, dd. Mr. Pod has had a lot of contact with the CNA there and feels good about the place and the people in charge, but it really is such a hard thing.
I do believe it is most sad for the family, the kids & grandkids who are left confused as to why their loved one can forget who they are and the love they have felt....:( life is strange and I guess we must learn to show love for our relatives while we can because we never know what fate has in store
Pea it's probably harder on the family than it is for him.:( We will be thinking of you all.

Franny, I was gonna say that. It really is. Especially pea, if he's at the point at which you say. I'm glad mr. pea feels good about the cna. That means a lot. Please let me know if I can help...or if you have questions...or need to vent.
ditto Franny and DD....

Hugs to Pea and GTTBM...
ditto OL!

The mother of one of my closest friends died of Alzheimer's a few years back. She & her family watched her once vibrant mother suffer and deteriorate for almost 15 years. It truly was, as they say, "the long goodbye." But, there was a positive outcome in this long journey. It completely changed my friend's outlook on life. She became a more loving, caring person. She has more patience and is no longer the self-centered individual she once was. Even in middle age, she grew into a beautiful person. Of course her mother is gone, but she learned more from her mother during her illness than before she became sick.

I believe it reminds us to be a little kinder to those around us.

Little update: Mr. P took his mom to the ER last night, and she got admitted. She's in A-Fib and has pneumonia. Cardiologist saw her this a.m. and said she'll be in the hospital a few days. She had quintuple bypass four years ago, so anything heart-related makes her kids a little nervous. Mr. P has seen grandpa every day, though, and he still seems good.

Pea, I am so sorry to hear that. I really hope your MIL is on the mend soon. I'm glad that your FIL is doing good. You and Mr. P are really going to need some R&R soon!
