I think on the ground is the best place for boots, but I'm still wondering why, when we call for air strikes, we don't say "we sent in some boots in the air"...puzzling, yes?

But "boots in the air" could be misconstrued...reminds me of an Aerosmith song...

Boots on the ground sounds like the exact opposite of a euphemism to me. Not a pretty picture.
