There's no getting around it. This is the week of Romance!
I was just wondering how y'all met your honey bunches of love, the one who makes your eyes sparkle, your spine tingle, and your heart go a pitter-pattering with joy and delight.
he was working at what was then still hooks drug store, and i was doing my externship there. we talked a lot and found out our families would be in myrtle beach at the same time, so he drove to our hotel to visit me, and we've been together ever since. hasn't always been easy, but that's life, huh ?
I don't have one of these stories, so I'll tell the one my mom told me:
It was her senior year in high school and she was sitting in her English class working on a reading assignment. She kept peeking over her book to look at this cute boy in her class named Bob. On one peek, she noticed that Steve, the boy sitting next to Bob, was looking at HER. They made eye contact, and he winked at her, which embarrassed her and made her bury her nose in her book for the rest of the class. Steve later found out that they had a mutual friend and had the friend set them up on a date. One date turned into three years of dating and 25 years (and going!) of marriage.
let's see. my roommate, the harley dude, was best friends with kurt's roommate, the permanent philosophy major, at UF. after months of these friends trying to get me to go over to meet all the roommates at kurt's house, I finally went to a cook out/party. I met kurt who immediately started making strawberry/banana daquaries for me. he stayed glued to my side so I wouldn't notice his other roommates. he asked me out. we went to Tim's Thai on our first date, had some vino, went to see a jazz band. were married within one year. we've been glued ever since... as I remind him on occasion, "ha ha ha ha! you're screwed forever!!!" JK... it really was at first sight... for him....
I was at the University of Kentucky, living in a fun apartment on a lake with my friend Stef and another gal. One day we were sunning on the back patio, and this guy with long blond hair walked by and asked us if we wanted to play volleyball- Bdarg! Later that fall, we ended up working at the same restaurant, dated briefly, but didn't really get together and married until years later after my first marriage.
We met online, by way of an AOL profile, 3 hours after I set up my computer on my 3rd day living in Destin. 10 years ago on the 4th of July. I was 14. It's a pretty long complicated story, but that pretty much sums it up. Our 5th anniversary will be in April.
We were introduced at a party my best friend and I just happened to drop by. My best friend had been dating his best friend for about 6 months. At some point the guy who would be my hubby wandered over.
I was not that impressed. He had been partying hard that night  and I had always said I would never, ever date a member of the particular fraternity he was in. However, he was looking for a date for the next night's fraternity formal -- apparently he had already asked a bunch of girls and then blown them off -- and I had never been to one of those. I wanted the commemorative T-shirt. So I said OK, thinking he wouldn't call me back, and if he did I would just go and get a T-shirt.
Well he called, and we went to the formal the next night with his best friend and my best friend. We had the best time and he was such a gentleman! We clicked immediately. Our best friends also got married, and we are lucky enough to get together with them and their kids once a month. We are all more mellow now but much much smarter.
My heart is turning to mush already! I think deep down under I am an incurable romantic.
I met Rob when he was a visiting engineer from the UK, working at MIT in the Gas Turbine Labs. I was secretary to the head of the department and one day he walked by my desk and was shot by an arrow of Cupid and mortally wounded. There was no hope for the poor man. ;-)
My best friend worked at a local athletic club. She wanted to me to meet her in the "cafe" for a drink one night after she got off work. We did this for a couple friday nights. One day she told me a guy she works with wanted to meet me. I had no idea who she was talking about but I was very curious since he noticed me first. The next friday night we were sitting at the cafe and this very cute tall life guard (Mr OL) came up to talk to some friends. He turned around and shot me the biggest smile....I'll never forget it. The rest is history.
