We have five inches and counting at Skunky's place in New Orleans.

Maybe we should play a game where we guess how deep we'll go...

Only 5?

Well, since my car only sits about 6 inches off the ground, it seems like a lot to me. What was really scaring me was the water bubbling up out of th storm drains.

No Jazz Fest for me today!

Wow!

But that's not deep in NOLA. I remember wading in knee-high water at Tulane after a minor rainstorm.

I also remember going to Mosca's, crossing the Huey P. Long Bridge, and having our brand new Volvo (of which we were very proud) dive into a road that had become a lake. Water was higher than the floorboard. The car literally rocked like a boat. There were frantic people abandoning cars and holding babies up in the air to prevent them from drowning. And this was minor rainstorm.

Two other weird things happened that weekend. We were sitting at the bar at Mosca's, and the guy next to me fell over. I thought he was drunk. Next thing I knew, we heard ambulance sirens. He died of a heart attack at Mosca's! Also we made reservations for jazz brunch at Commander's, and when we got there the restaurant's kitchen had burned down!

Remind me not sit next to you at a bar or restraunt!

Maybe it's not bad if your car's ground clearance is just above knee high. 5 inches of standing water is not good, no matter if it is NOLA or SoWal.
