We had a wonderful New Years full of old friends. One family was the best man in our wedding. They have just moved back here from Honduras. How much funn it was watching children who knew hardly any english still interact with children who speak no spanish.![]()
Close to midnight I was explaing traditions we have on new years day. (peas, cabbage and/or turnip greens, etc) Mari told me of a tradition that they do every year, it is one her father (from Spain) taught them. It is called "the race". You gather up a suitcase (for travels in the new year), money (for making it), something red (for love) and something yellow (for health). At midnight you run as fast as you can around the home you are staying in. I told them that tradition could not be broke. So we gathered up some things and got ready. We were staying at the Villas at Seacrest Beach so I went and unlocked the "villa owners only" gate so we could enter the side of the building. We ran and ran around to the other side of the other building only to find that the public gate was locked. :shock:Luckily the key I had worked but I tell you the hispanic kids actually scaled the fence so that they did not waste any time.
What funn it was to have a new tradition added to our new years eve festivities.
