Wow! A Bobcat in our Driveway!

New posts
Wow! How cool! Where I work we see all kind of critters, deer, etc. I've been patiently waiting to spot the elusive bobcat that is supposedly around, but never have. I have heard they are normally very shy - how surprising that they came up to your driveway!

We saw a herd of about 30 elk last night on the way to dinner. I am SO pissed that I didn't have my camera as I was seriously 15-20 feet from some of them!

Would be SO cool to see a bobcat!

We have a circular driveway- he was directly in front of the front door when the dogs went NUTS. He didn't seem to worried, and was still a bit too unperturbed for my comfort level when I opened the door and yelled at him. Then he sauntered out the driveway to the mailbox, and when we yelled at him, he tore off into the woods across the street! Wow- he was pretty! But I don't want him getting too comfortable.

 That is great!

There was one a few years ago in our neighborhood, in the backyard of someone who had stockade fence and neighbors with like fences on all sides. It was amazing it got into an area so populated like that!

Scooterbug - you saw elk? How cool. My parents have a cabin in North Carolina (Maggie Valley near Asheville) where elk were reintroduced by the National Park Service several years ago. The population has grown and they appear to be doing what elk are supposed to do. There is a particular valley where you can park at dusk to watch the herds of elk graze. Very nice experience.

I have been looking at pictures of bobcats (the 4 legged kind rdelong!). Anyway- our bobcat is young- and not much bigger than our cat. Same markings, build, little bob tail, and black tipped ears as an adult, but the face was not as mean looking. It probably weighed about 15-20 pounds.

They all look cute and cuddly when they are young.

I have seen local female cats give birth to babies with bobbed tails before. And as they grow, the babies do not have the temperament of most non-feral domesticated cats. :creepy:

Kinda like this one?

You beat me to it, I was going to mention that bob cats will mate with domesticated cats from time to time.

I've seen a coyote on the side of the road (still alive) just West of Grayton on 30A.
