Dog issues

New posts
Be glad you have them. For about the first week and a half after our Mo got sick, and him near 13. I was having to clean up his throw up 3 different times, off of our hardwood floors. My husband had to clean it up one other time. And all I have is the haunting memory of our dog's lifeless body laying on the exam table after he was euthanized. One that won't leave my head. Our dog was having major food issues the last month of his life. I bought everything under the sun I thought he would eat, cooked for him, only to have him turn his nose up at most of it. And that was way before his diagnosis the last week of his life. For one month I had a daily battle with trying to get him to eat anything, especially enough to get his insulin shot, which is another thing that took him down, loss of control of his blood sugar.

Hang in there LadyD. Time will make things better. I dread the day when I have to go through what you did, but that is the price I will pay for my pups unconditional love. Still thinking of you.

I'm trying but I still cannot get past the guilt of what we did. Especially if there was even the small possibility that he did not have cancer. But we feel sure he did as the vet said he had lost all of his muscle mass. And they both felt sure he had it by looking at the cells they found that resembled that type of cancer. And all of this happened in a month. But we could not put a 13 year old dog through the kind of treatment involved for peritonitis either. In the first place, he would have not survived that kind of surgery. I miss him bad. When his mom died we had him to fall back on. That helped. We had him for another two years plus a few months. Just still grieving badly.

i am right there with ya lady d....i feel like her dumped dory off at the vet's door to die....it kills me to think i wasn't there for her.

Pretend you have a 1 year old baby that has just learned to walk. Remember how you would do a "sweep" of the house, and put away anything that could be picked up and put in a 1 year old mouth?

Do it again. You have a 1 year old.

And crate the dogs when you are not at home. It is not "mean" to do this- if your dogs are eating everything, it may save their lives.
I totally agree. All of the show-dog breeders whom I know crate-train their dogs.

We were not with our other dog Sapphire when she died at the vet. She was there for a supposed to be simple tapping of the abdomen to draw fluid out. Blood was drawn out instead. He checked it and it showed cancer in her spleen. He went in to operate on her to remove her spleen and one of the four tumors he had found had ruptured and he got that stopped but it was too much for her near 13 year old heart and she died on the table. So she never got to spend her last night at home with us, and we should have just taken her up there the next morning. But at least I did go in the run with her and pet her and love on her and talk to her and I told her we would be bringing her home that evening hopefully. That was before any surgery. I still feel guilty for that. She has been gone over two years. :(

it's amazing how attached we get, isn't it ?

It is. But I need to try and put this all in the back of my head. Both dogs had great lives and a good home. And were relatively healthy until about the last month. They had a nice big yard to wander around in. Could see all the neighborhood action. And lots of love.

that's what is important - a lot of pets don't get that..
