From MSN Health & Fitness:

"A recent FDA report on weight loss mentioned the National Weight Control Registry, which includes a database of over 3,000 American adults who have lost an average of 60 pounds and kept it off for an average of six years. The group?s secret? According to the study?s co-developer, R.I. Wing, the majority of successful losers shares four common behaviors: they eat a low-fat, high-carb diet, they monitor themselves by weighing in frequently, they are very physically active and they eat breakfast. Presto, magico!"

I personally think that getting a good night's sleep might be useful as well!

I quit smoking 10 weeks ago and have put on a pound for every week. I worked it out that by this time next year if i don't do something soon i will be 210 pounds, a thought that does not appeal to me or my other half.
I have started a high protein diet ( on advice of my doctor) for 4 weeks to jump start my metabolism and i have joined the gym which i am actually going to every other day.
I have never had to think about my weight before so this is a whole new concept for me.
I need all the help and advice i can get.

You totally change your routine. When I quit, instead of waking up and starting my day w/coffee, cig, and newspaper, I'd jump straight into the shower, then eat breakfast, then GET BUSY. Clean out a drawer, do laundry, anything with yur hands. Even though I rarely smoked in the car (the kids were always in it), I found eating an apple gave me something to do, s o I ended up craving an apple every day. Nix the chatty phone calls for awhile, and nix doing things in general that you did while smoking- 'cause it will make you want to eat now that you don't smoke. Walk alot- clears the head.

Be prepared for a bit of the blues- it is a HUGE change that nonsmokers could never understand. I don't get too stewed about dieting- I know I can lose the weight with 99% less effort than it took to quit smoking. You will find that too I'm sure.

Coffee, mock danish and turkey bacon for me this morning. YUM. Breakfast is easy...tonight will be hard. I got very used to snacking in the evenings.

It's a SB thing. 1 egg, 2oz. light cream cheese, dash of vanilla and cinnamon, slenda packet all whisked together and microwaved for a minute and thirty seconds. They also call it mock french toast..no bread of course!

OL: You tell us what you cook each day, then the next day..we will have it. That way, for those of us that have to have a set plan to go by, you are providing it for us. I'm already in real trouble because I don't eat breakfast. I know, the most important meal of the day. I have been told this for years, but if I eat breakfast then it seems I'm hungry all day.

That is interesting because breakfast, not dinner is the hardest for me. I love cereal, muffins, pancakes, waffles, etc, and have made healthy verisions, but am not as satisfied as with a protein based breakfast. At the moment I am DYING for some junk...anything sweet would work.
Dinner seems to have more variety.

Wow, a normal SB recipe? Where did you find that? Everything in the book is so exotic and time consuming...

You know what I did Beach Crazy? I took the Foods to Enjoy lists and made my own menu's based on the listed foods. I avoided the foods in the foods to avoid list. It made it so much easier for me. There some good recipes, however I found that I could make my own meals alot easier, just by following the principles. It worked for me. Maybe you could try that. Good Luck.

I do this too. My meals are going to be pretty boring and repetitive for the next 2 weeks. I'll have the 0 point soup everyday for lunch the mock danish , V8 for breakfast and a lean meat and green beans, cottage cheese etc for dinner. SB is really into fish and seafood but I only like that at the beach! I don't really like preparing it myself. Maybe shrimp cocktail or something like that but I'm really more of a meat/veggie eater. I love nuts so pistachios are a good snack for me. I could eat way more than 16 at a time but I am counting them out and going by the book for now. I don't do everything exact SB but trying to be close.
I found the mock danish recipe on an AOL message board last year. I can't seem to navigate the new one as easily so I gave up on it. I'll just google recipes.
