I sooooo needed this thread at this moment! It calmed me down from raising some hell with my little ones.... I got the 6 month old to sleep so I could read to the girls at bedtime. Well, the 3 year old comes in with her wooden flute and would NOT leave UNTIL he woke up. I lost it. Totally & absolutely.
I wish I was a Zen mom. It is my aspiration and I didn't make it tonight. It ended with hugs and kisses but it was not pretty.
I spent 21 days this spring without my other half, pregnant with two little ones. This fall, right after we moved here, I spent 4 weeks without him, had him for 5 days and then he left right back out for another week. It was horrible. I wasn't so nice to him, but I made it through. We made it through as a family.
All of this made me call my mom this morning and tell her that I appreciate what she did when we were kids. Dad traveled most of my childhood and she was home with 3 of us. He's pretty useless around the house anyway. He can't cook, clean, etc. I have never even seen him unload the dryer.

My brothers will never get it because they aren't mothers. My older brother told me his soon to be second child would NOT affect their lives in the least. I just laughed, more to myself than anything.
So, reading this thread tonight was like having a bunch of hugs from good friends who can laugh with you in your craziness. It's the SoWal therapy.
I look at my 3 munchkins and just fall in love again and again. But, we all know, there was NO WARNING about what motherhood would entail. My lifelong friends have been talking about this a lot lately. No one warned us.
No one could have warned us.

Being a mother is like nothing else. My mom and I were talking about it tonight because she was asking about my relationship with my birth mother. She said she didn't understand her. I said, "She was never a mom. She doesn't know how to be a mom." She said, "Well she had stepkids." "But they were older than her." Basically my birth mom sacrificed and gave up her chance of being a mom by giving me up and then marrying a very, very older man. I feel sorry for her because she has no idea what she's missing.
Because even if they did warn us, it wouldn't have changed anything because I cannot imagine a day without these three dear little angels

that have my heart and soul in their tiny little fists. Half the time, we have everyone in the family and the cat in the bed with us. Now that's love.

(I'd get scared if our two hermit crabs joined us

.)
