My grandfather met my grandmother in the early 1940s. He was this cute young guy in a Navy uniform and she was "the prettiest girl in California." (His own words.) She didn't want to tell him her age, because she was afraid he wouldn't like her if he knew she was five years his senior. They dated for six months and got married. They had been married for almost 65 years before he passed away earlier this month, and they have five kids, seven grandkids, and three great-grandkids.

And I really only shared this story because I have come into possession of some great pictures of them from their early days as a young couple, and I wanted to show off a couple of my favorite ones.

awwww! these are grayt! now we know where you get your stunning good looks pv!

So sorry PV for the loss of your grandfather.
What a beautiful couple they were and your grandmother looks stunning in those pictures. Thanks for posting them.

Years ago, at my brother's wedding rehearsal dinner, we played this 'game'. When we got to my mom, dad just glared at her, as if to say "don't even". To which she glared back, as if to say "just try to stop me". To which he just rolled his eyes, giving up. So for the first time ever, we finally heard the story of how they met.

It was 1942, Camp LeJeune. Mom was whatever you called a female Marine (receptionist), Dad was in combat training.
Mom and a friend of hers were decorating for a "dance" they were having at the enlisted club. Mom's friend dared her to dance with the first guy that came through the door. Mom said, "I'll do better than that, I'll marry him." In walked my the man who became my Dad in his USMC dress uniform. They got married, dad went to Japan, and came home to a year old daughter! (his, not the milkman's)

Five kids, (I'm the youngest at 43, oldest is 62), four granchildren, three great grandchildren later, they almost made it to 60 years of marriage. Dad passed a few years ago, and Mom, 83, is the biggest flirt and constant center of attention at her assisted care living facility.
Gee I wonder where she gets that from?:idontno:
Hey da, we have some things in common. My dad retired as a Marine Colonel. He of course spent plenty of time at camp LeJeune. One summer he played helicopter squadron leader on active duty. My dad is 83 and my mother is 85. I just bet their paths crossed back then. They got married in 43 and will be married 64 years in July. They also had 5 kids. I'm number 4. Their youngest just turned 50 and the oldest just turned 60. Dad flew the Corsair in Korea and WWII. How long did your dad stay in? My Dad went reserve in '60 then retired much later sometime, like '80.

I love all these stories!!:clap_1: :clap_1: So glad I waited til I got home and settled down before I read them.

I was pretty recently divorced from #2 and had already been through the transitional man. Was still kinda seeing the t.m. For many years, I have gone to the Colonial Golf Tournament in Ft. Worth. 1990 being no different, I went to the golf tournament with 3 of my girlfriends. We had lots of funn and drank many of the famed Colonial margaritas. When we left, my most sober friend was driving, and I was in the back seat. We drove by mr. dd who was with his neighbor and getting into his car. Our eyes locked. I told my friend to circle around. He says he motioned for us to come back. We pulled up beside him and I said, "Where are you going", and he said, "wherever you're going". We went to Rick's on the Bricks in Ft. Worth and proceeded to get to know each other. We both had lots of baggage, and lots of things to work out, but a short seven years later, on July 4, 1997, we were married.

I always say I picked him up in a parking lot.

i first saw her in culinary school in poughkeepsie. i was just about to get married during externship. i was working in the media dept, and about 2/3 of the way through year one, she was just on her way into year one. i left for the summer, got married and returned to school. again, 2/3 through the year, she returned. i never said a word to her.

a year later i'm in hospitality school in miami. i'm in classes with what turns out to be her then boyfriend. she's going to come down here too to go to school. he takes a trip up north and upon his return, it's evident that things went south. she shows up the following sept. i have since gotten divorced. within a month we're living together.

more to follow...
