Our fur baby

New posts
So sorry, LadyD. As you might remember, we had to put down our beloved Weimaraner, Winnie, two years ago at the Auburn University Veterinary Hospital. They made heroic efforts to save her. We had her cremated, but we still aren't over it enough to bury her next to our poodles. The mahogany box is still in the laundry room.:(

Those who aren't big dog lovers don't get it. I remember when one of my miniature poodles, Mocha, died in 1996. The vet called my office to tell me. Mocha had stayed there overnight for IV fluids. I started weeping and then passed out, and one of my colleagues had to drive me home. As we were leaving my office, I remember hearing people say, "Why is she so upset? It's just a dog." Not "just a dog." It was a dog that I loved so much that when I was in the hospital for two months to avoid a miscarriage (I went into labor with Beach Jacket at 26 weeks which then was unviable), I missed Mocha so much that the head nurse allowed us to sneak Mocha in for a visit so she could cuddle with me.

They also didn't allow me to watch any Gator games because I would get so excited that they were afraid it would make the contractions start again.

Anyhow, LadyD, I will be praying for you and your furry baby.

So sorry to hear this ladyD. Time is too short with those we love, but I know you gave your baby lots of love and that is what matters in the end with a fur companion, mutual love and devotion.

My Atlanta best friend's boy friend put his golden down today at 4:00...she was ailing and it was time, but it was very hard for Billy to do. Those they leave behind.....:( But I do believe that this is true of people and fur friends..."it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all"

if the vet says there is no hope, then you can accept this and do what is necessary to relieve him asap, or get another opinion. but, you probably have a very good feeling about whether your precious one is ready to go or not. we usually feel this and know it about our pets. it is truly a gift that we can give our animal friends when the time comes - relief and peace. it is difficult. but also the most loving thing you can do. we have experienced this several times with beloved family pets, and I would not trade the moment of giving them this gift, no matter how hard it is to do. because they do depend on us for taking care of them in all ways.

lady - i know it's hard, believe me i understand. it hurts so hard to lose a fur baby, i still am not over dory - doubt i ever will be. it's a hard decision to make, and i am sure you will do the right thing for mo. thankfully dory made the decision for me. i am thinking of you both, i am sitting here crying like a girly girl right now.....

I am crying too, Lady. So sorry for the hard decision that you have to make. I know that there are so many days I prefer the company of my dog to anyone else and can't imagine how bad I'll feel when he's gone. Good luck. I'm sure you'll make the right decision when the time comes.

Thinking of you and your fur baby.

:( ...I am thinking of you and Mo. They told me I would know when it was time for our Missy....and they were right. Hardest, but most loving thing you can do for your loved pup. Keep us posted.
